International
Chapters

In Vietnam, international chapters under DECA’s High School Division are officially approved and recognized by DECA Inc., which sets eligibility requirements, manages the official international registration process, and collects annual membership dues by November 15th of each year. By joining Vietnam DECA (unincorporated), an independent, interscholastic, student-led national association, chapters commit to follow all standards established by DECA Inc. and their respective home institutions. In addition, they pledge full compliance to the competitive programs, policies, guidelines, and operational standards set forth by the Vietnam DECA National Association.

Prospective Student Membership

To participate in Vietnam DECA, its official competitions, conferences, and other programs, students must be enrolled in grades 9-12 (Year 10-13) and be registered with an official DECA chapter at their current institution of enrollment. If no local chapter exists at their current institution of enrollment, students may register with the nearest active DECA chapter, subject to that chapter's approval.

Prospective Chapter Membership

To properly support new and prospective chapters, Vietnam DECA primarily designates its off-season, typically from March to August between annual competition seasons, as the preferred period to start, support, and affiliate chapters into the National Association. Additionally, the admission of chapters may continue on a rolling basis throughout the year, subject to the association’s general capacity and broad discretion.

Stage 1

Preparation

March - May

1. Gather Interest: Identify other fellow peers and classmates at your school, who are also interested in business, entrepreneurship, leadership, and may be interested in starting a chapter with you.

2. Build your Core Team: Assemble a group of others peers committed to your idea and start thorough research on DECA and Vietnam DECA to understand the benefits and opportunities that our organizations offer.

3. Connect with Vietnam DECA: With a dedicated team and a clear understanding of the DECA extracurricular (i.e. its objectives and activities), contact a current Vietnam DECA chapter. They will connect you to the National Association, who will become your chapter’s primary liaisons and shall assess the feasibility and readiness of your chapter. Should they consider your chapter prepared, you will be provided with the necessary timelines, procedures, and resources to begin an official DECA chapter at your school.

Stage 2

1. Meet DECA Inc. Requirements:

All DECA chapters must be part of a high school, must have a chapter advisor recognized by the school and must have a minimum chapter size of ten (10) student members and one (1) advisor.
The chapter must pay all dues (DECA Inc.) for each of its advisor, student, alumni and professional members.

2. Gain School Approval: Once your chapter meets DECA Inc. requirements to start a new chapter, the next step is to secure official support and approval from your school’s administration to establish your DECA chapter as an extracurricular activity. This could involve the principal and/or the athletic/activities director.

3. Official Chapter Request: Once your chapter has received official approval from your school, complete the new chapter request form on the official DECA membership system.

4. Get Approval and Make It Official by Submitting Your Members: Once you get approval, make your chapter’s membership official by entering your membership roster. After you have entered your members’ names, be sure to hit submit and send your dues to DECA Inc. If dues are not submitted, your students are not official DECA members.

Stage 3

Affiliation

May - August

By officially affiliating with Vietnam DECA, chapters become full members within the National Association. As full members, they are granted eligibility to participate in all official Vietnam DECA competitions, including the triannual district-level city competitions and the annual Vietnam DECA Nationals Conference. Furthermore, affiliated chapters gain access to the association’s complete operational and governance frameworks, along with a broad range of resources, support systems, and organizational functions.

1. Initiating Affiliation: To begin the official affiliation process with Vietnam DECA, chapters must meet all prerequisites above and provide formal acknowledgment of their official approval by DECA Inc. to the Vietnam DECA National Association, who will be in regular contact with the chapter throughout the affiliation process.

2. Managing Affiliation: In all cases, the Vietnam DECA National Association, through its National Officers, will retain general discretion in defining the official affiliation process for prospective chapters, including on decisions regarding their eligibility to participate in official competitions and their induction into the association’s operational and governance structures. Each chapter's application for affiliation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, with consideration given to the current priorities, resources, and organizational capacity of Vietnam DECA.

3. Conditional Affiliation: To guarantee that all chapters are consistent with the organizational standards, values, and principles of Vietnam DECA, the membership status of any chapter, including those currently affiliated, is subject to review at any time. The Vietnam DECA National Association reserves the right to temporarily suspend or permanently revoke a chapter’s affiliation, should a reasonable, substantiated, and/or sustained concern be identified.
